On behalf of the British Scoliosis Society (BSS) and the organising committee, it is a pleasure to welcome you to the 48th Annual Meeting of the British Scoliosis Society, taking place from 18–20 November 2026 at the East Midlands Conference Centre, University of Nottingham.
This year’s meeting is especially significant as we celebrate the Society’s 50th anniversary. Over five decades, the BSS has advanced the understanding, treatment, and multidisciplinary management of scoliosis and spinal deformity. This milestone offers an opportunity both to reflect on that progress and to look ahead to the future of patient care.
The conference will bring together a multidisciplinary community committed to improving outcomes for patients with scoliosis, providing a forum for education, collaboration, and innovation.
With an internationally renowned faculty, including Seok Woo Kim, Michael Vitale, and Jean-Charles Le Huec, the programme will cover conservative management, surgical pathways, innovation, and education. Consultants, trainees, physiotherapists, orthotists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals will all contribute to the meeting’s multidisciplinary perspective.
Nottingham provides an excellent setting for the meeting, combining history, culture, and easy access to the Peak District National Park. Visitors may also wish to explore local landmarks including Sherwood Forest and Wollaton Hall.
Hosted by the Centre for Spinal Studies and Surgery at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, this year’s conference is framed by the theme Improving Safety through Innovation. It will explore how emerging technologies, clinical pathways, and treatment approaches can safely improve outcomes for patients with scoliosis.
Wednesday’s Education Day will include two dedicated streams for senior trainees and newly appointed consultants. The Allied Health Professional and Conservative Care programmes will continue, alongside a new Primary Care Education Day designed to support colleagues involved in the diagnosis, management, and referral of patients with spinal deformity.
We are also pleased to welcome back the British Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiology and the National Paediatric Spinal Anaesthetist Network, further strengthening the meeting’s multidisciplinary focus.
The East Midlands Conference Centre offers excellent transport links, with direct tram access to Nottingham Railway Station and the Park and Ride near Junction 25 of the M1. The on-site hotel provides parking and electric vehicle charging, and is within easy walking distance of all conference facilities, including the historic Trent Building, where the black-tie Conference Dinner will be held.
We look forward to welcoming you to Nottingham for three days of learning, collaboration, and exchange. As we celebrate 50 years of the British Scoliosis Society, this meeting is an opportunity to recognise the progress made and to renew our shared commitment to improving care for patients with spinal deformity.
